Katarzyna Widmanska, born in Krakow, Poland graduated artistic education in fine arts at the Art Institute of the Pedagogical University in Cracow.
She has has several individual and collective exhibitions including publications in country and abroad.

     

Q.  Who are the artists you admire and why?
A.  Mostly painters like Rembrandt, Vermeer, Goya and photographers such as Irving Penn, Paolo Roversi and Eugenio Recuenco

Q.  What does photography mean to you?
A.  Photography for me is the best and most important medium I can express myself through.

       

Q.  You have a very distinctive style. What were your subjects when you first started out?
A.  Women are my subjects from the very beginning.

Q.  What are your inspirations?
A.  Painting, literature, old photography, fairy tales, music, people and the whole world around me.

         
Q.  What are the subjects you chose for your latest works?
A.  The feminine body, its expression, women and their dark side

Q.  Is there a story behind your works?
A.  Always; every picture/series tells a story.

                   

Q.  Can you talk about any exhibition experience?
A.  I had several individual exhibitions.

Q.  Do you have a favorite piece among your works?
A.  The series Alice in wonderland and the Vampire Chronicles are my favorite ones.

                    
Q.  Could you tell us more about your creative process?
A.  Usually the picture first appears in my head then I draw it or write it down. Later on, I start to prepare it, looking for models, places, clothes, parts of scenography and so on.

Q.  What equipment & techniques do you use?
A.  I use both digital and analogue cameras. Nowadays, I work mainly with Photoshop but I dream that one day I’ll come back to my dark room and go through analogue processes on my own.

                    

Q.  Are you working on new projects currently?
A.  Sure, I keep on working all the time, just right now I’m working on a photo shoot for a new magazine and my latest author’s session is inspired by Moulin Rouge.

Q.  What are your professional ambitions and your projects for 2011?
A.  I would like to finish the Vampire series and finally start few more new projects that I have been planning for a long time now.

          

Q.  How do you hope Pelime can help with this?
A.  I don’t know but I hope it will somehow;) maybe through the people, artists that are already members…
